Globally, about 60 percent of men and 50 percent of women experience hair loss. To remedy this loss, what you need is a hair transplant.

But, there are different hair transplant types, and the procedures vary according to several factors. In this article, you will learn about the different hair transplant types and the factors you should consider before deciding which method you prefer.

What you Need to Know About Hair Transplants

A hair transplant is a cosmetic surgery that involves moving hair to a part of your head that is bald or thin. While many hair restoration drugs, creams, and products are on the market, hair transplant remains the most successful way of redressing baldness and hair loss. It is direct.

For example, think of a garden where the plants on side A seem to flourish more than those on side B. To have a lovely garden where everything is evenly beautiful, you take some of the soil that causes the growth from side A to side B to help it grow.

Now you have a smooth, evenly beautiful garden. In other words, it involves moving hair from an area not affected by hair loss to an area where the hair is thinning or is entirely bald.

It is important to note that hair transplant is not for everyone. If your baldness is widespread, you have deep scalp injury scars, or the hair loss was caused by chemotherapy, it might be difficult to restore your hair.

What are the Different Hair Transplant Types?

If you’re looking for a hair transplant, two main hair transplant types are very effective in hair restoration. The hair transplant types are follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE).

But your choice of the two options depends on your assessment of the hair transplant types. This includes your preference regarding cost, safety, process, etc.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant Type

A follicular unit extraction involves a surgical process where hair follicles are directly removed from one part of the body (mostly from the back of the head/neck) and transferred to the hairless position.

This hair transplant type involves using a micro-surgical needle to transfer the hair into the scalp of the recipient area. It is a more modern, advanced, and easy process where you are the donor and the recipient. To be eligible for this process, you must have sufficient (thick) hair for transplant.

There are two processes for harvesting in follicular unit extraction transplant – manual or robotics. The manual process is usually longer. The physician uses a hand-held device to remove the hair follicles. On the other hand, robotics requires the use of a robotic device closely monitored and guided by the physician.

While the physician inputs all the necessary information for the robot, the robot does the harvesting. The robotic process is more favored against the manual method for its effectiveness, less time consumption, minimal scarring, and painlessness.

Here are some important facts to consider that will aid your selection of the FUE process:

* In terms of cost, FUE transplant ranges from $4,000 to $15,000 for every session, depending on the amount of hair being transplanted and the doctors’ experience

* It is more time-consuming as it takes a longer process, but it is a very effective method. Although, with Robotics FUE, the issue of time is significantly reduced

* It gives natural results and leaves behind no mark

* It is a painless procedure

* The recovery process for FUE is faster since it involves a little incision, unlike FUT

* You will start to see changes from the fourth month

* It provides long-lasting natural looks

* Hair can be harvested from any part of the body

* The process is surgical

* You will be required to shave your head

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

In the case of follicular unit transplantation, also known as the strip method, tissue strips are removed from the donor area. The strips are cut into smaller follicular fragments, known as grafts. Then, holes will be made into the recipient area, where the tiny grafts will be inserted, known as grafting.

The key difference between this and the FUE process is how the grafts are taken from the donor area. In the case of the FUE method, the follicles are removed directly from the donor area and implanted in the recipient area. FUT removes a large tissue, then the follicles will be cut out from that tissue before it is inserted into the recipient area. Also, while FUT leaves a linear scar, FUE doesn’t.

Here are some important details about FUT that may guide your decision:

* It involves significantly lesser time as against the FUE transplant method

* It is also great when one is looking for a long-lasting natural look

* It leaves a scar in the donor area, although this will be covered by hair

* It has a longer recovery process

* FUT procedures are generally less expensive

* It is considered a better option if you are looking for fuller hair and more coverage

* The process is surgical

Direct Hair Implantation

Although it was earlier mentioned that there are two main hair transplantation types. However, another technique that is worth mentioning is direct hair implantation. This method was introduced by DHI global medical group. It is an innovation of the FUE method.

The surgeon will remove follicles from the donor area and implant the harvested follicles into the recipient area using a special implanter pen designed for it. The difference between FUE and DHI is that the surgeon does the incision and implantation at the same time.

In other words, the direct hair implantation method allows the implantation to be done immediately after the incision is made into the recipient area. Also, patients do not need to shave their hair and are allowed to resume work 24 hours after, unlike the popular two, which take 3-4 days. This also ensures fuller hair growth, up to 90%, which is more than the other processes.
